Saturday Skimmers
A club for juniors up until the age of 18
Saturday mornings from 9am until about lunchtime
Saturday Skimmers is designed to give under 18's the opportunity to do everything from start sailing to compete in a championship! Boats are provided (you can use your own), the club has Oppies, Toppers, Teras, Feva's, Wayfarers and a Laser 2000, something for everyone. All other equipment is provided including wetsuits and buoyancy aids.
Run by our qualified coaches and rescue boat crews the Saturday morning class is split into three groups, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, all starting at 9am with a briefing at 9.45
Beginners
Starting from nothing and moving towards the ability to understand how the boat moves and changes direction in relation to the wind with an element of fun built in, this group can often be found chasing rubber ducks around the river and other fun games to help with the learning experience.
Intermediates
Now that you know how to sail the boat with the basics the intermediate group will allow you to improve your skills or if you're not interested in moving up to the advanced group you can just go for a sail and enjoy the river.
Advanced
When it's time to step up a gear the advanced group offer a focused session taking in the more race related elements e.g., starting, tactics, wind and tide effects, advanced boat handling and race management. This group is often videoed and a debrief if published after every session on the club Facebook page.
Whatever your level this is a fun session, come along and try it, you won't be disappointed!
